The Russian Blue belongs to the group of shorthaired cats. The head has a shape of a short wedge, and should not be too long. The skull is long and flat, in profile the forehead and nose form a convex angle at the same level as the eyebrows. The nose and the forehead are straight. Whisker pads are very prominent. The chin is strong. The ears are large and rather pointed, broad at the base and set vertically to the head. Their skin is fine and transparent, the inside is lightly covered with hair. Eyes are large and almond-shaped, set wide apart, with a vivid green colour. The head is set on a long, straight neck. The torso is long, with medium bone structure. It has a graceful outline and it is very elegant in general. The legs are finely formed, high, with small oval paws. The tail is long, tapering to the tip. The coat is short and dense, very fine, standing up like plush, with a soft, silky texture. The Russian Blue cat has a double coat; its look and texture differ vastly from those of any other breed. The coat colour is blue-grey, even and clean, with a distinct silver sheen. A medium blue-grey colour with a silver sheen is preferred. The nose leather is blue-grey, and the paw pads are dark lavender. This breed almost became extinct after the Second World War. In the 1960?s, other breeds were used in Great Britain for the breeding of the original. In addition to Great Britain, the top Russian Blue cats are raised in Sweden and in the USA. Czech breeds belong to the European top, as well. FIFe recognizes a single colour variety - solid blue. Other world organizations recognize Russian Blue cats also in white and black colours.
